Ellen Miller-Goins
Ellen is the nerve center of Materials Design handling everything from accounts payable, accounts receivable, human resources, shipping, bookkeeping and correspondence to maintaining the company database and planning meetings.
Before coming to work at Materials Design, Ellen was news editor at the Sangre de Cristo Chronicle newspaper in Angel Fire, New Mexico where her job included planning and editing the week’s news and photo content, providing instruction and guidance in writing techniques and new style, and designing the page layout for the weekly paper as well as special magazine supplements.
Prior to that, Ellen was general manager of Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski Area in Red River, New Mexico, a business she helped grow from the ground up along with her parents, New Mexico Ski Hall of Famers John and Judy Miller. (The Millers also owned and operated a downhill ski area where Ellen worked several years as a ski instructor.)
As a journalist, Ellen received multiple awards from the New Mexico Press Association for editorial, column, sports, obituary, news and feature writing, photography, design and typography, as well as a third-place award for news writing in the 2000 National Federation of Press Women Communications Contest.
She holds a BA in Creative Writing from the University of New Mexico.
Ellen was born in Amarillo, Texas, a community she (thankfully) only lived in until age 2 when her parents moved to Red River. Other than a few brief forays to “the real world,” she still makes her home there with husband Geoff, son William, dog Jenna and cat Fawkes. A freelance writer and photographer, she also enjoys alpine and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, snowboarding, hiking, mountain biking, and running.
