Mat works closely with the Materials Design® team on marketing, sales, pre-sales and post-sales activities to promote and advance the application of quantum and classical simulation technologies to real world problems in materials science.

Professional experience: 

Mat is a Senior Scientist at Materials Design, Inc. and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas. Prior to joining Materials Design® he was a senior scientist at Accelrys, Inc. Before that he held the E.R. Davidson Fellowship in theoretical chemistry at Indiana University and earlier was the Manager of the Scientific Simulation and Modeling Group at Zyvex Corporation.

Over the past decade, Mat has become a trusted advisor on the use of materials modeling techniques for clients in diverse industries including aerospace, electronics and specialty chemicals. His personal research focuses on using quantum-based methods to analyze and optimize chemical systems for applications such as atomic layer deposition (ALD), organic semiconductors (OLED/OPV) and Li-ion battery electrolytes. He has over 40 peer-reviewed journal publications, serves as a guest editor for the journal Molecular Simulation and has given multiple invited talks. He is a member of numerous professional organizations including APS, MRS, ACS and AAAS.

Mat was born and raised in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, right in the middle between Lake Erie and Lake St. Clair. He now lives with his wife Tricia and two sons in San Diego. When not working, Mat may be found teaching fish what humans look like.
