Senior Scientist Dr. Volker Eyert to Present Advances in Multiscale Modeling of Transition-Metal Oxides Materials Design


Materials Design is pleased to announce that Dr. Volker Eyert, Senior Scientist at Materials Design SARL, has been invited to present a distinguished seminar at Nazarbayev University in Astana, Kazakhstan, in October 2026.


The invitation reflects Dr. Eyert's internationally recognized expertise in computational materials science, electronic-structure methods, machine-learned potentials, and transition-metal oxide research.

During his visit, scheduled for 2-6 October 2026, Dr. Eyert will deliver a seminar entitled “Multiscale Modeling for Transition-Metal Oxides" and engage in scientific discussions with faculty, researchers, and students from the School of Engineering, the Institute of New Materials and Energy Technologies, and the National Laboratory Astana.


The seminar will showcase recent advances in multiscale computational materials science, highlighting the growing role of machine-learned interatomic potentials (MLPs) in enabling simulations of increasingly complex materials systems. Dr. Eyert will discuss how foundational MLPs, trained on datasets of first-principles calculations, are transforming atomistic modeling and providing unprecedented opportunities to study materials behavior across larger length and time scales. He will also introduce phase-field methods that extend modeling capabilities to the mesoscale, allowing researchers to investigate phenomena such as microstructure evolution, phase transformations, and corrosion processes.

*Dr. Yanwei Wang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, Nazarbayev University. He also serves as Acting Director of the Center for Energy and Advanced Materials Science (CEAMS) at the National Laboratory Astana (NLA) and Head of the Center of Digital Modelling and AI in Energy at the Institute of New Materials and Energy Technologies (INMET).


His research interests include multiscale modelingcomplex fluidsenergy materialschemical engineering transport phenomenacomputational physics, and AI-enabled scientific modeling, with an emphasis on physics-based and data-based approaches spanning multiple scales from molecular to continuum.
