French National Research Agency funds PREDIMOL project

Montrouge, France and Santa Fe, NM, USA – August 31, 2010

Materials Design, Inc. was named one of two industrial partners in the PREDIMOL Project. This project will demonstrate the applicability of computational methods in predicting physicochemical properties of chemical substances. Accurate knowledge of this data is required by the new EU regulation REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals). This concerns more than 143,000 substances which have been pre-registered by 65,000 companies in order to allow their use before 2018.

“The environmentally responsible use of all chemical products is a critical issue facing our global community. The understanding and reliable prediction of materials properties is a cornerstone of this effort,” said Erich Wimmer, CEO of Materials Design, Inc. “We are proud to be part of this team of scientists who are working together to find solutions.”

The PREDIMOL Project is funded by the French National Research Agency (ANR). Materials Design, Inc. and Arkema are the two industrial partners in this project, which is coordinated by Patricia Rotureau from the French National Institute for Industrial Environment and Risks (INERIS). The other participants are the IFP, the Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Chimie de Paris (ENSCP), and the University of Paris XI, laboratory of physical chemistry (LCP).
